The Good Life Belongs to Those Who Grieve

Matthew 5:4

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."

Grief is something our culture often tries to avoid.

We distract ourselves, stay busy and move on as quickly as possible.

Jesus offers a different vision.

Throughout Scripture, mourning is treated honestly. Jacob mourned Joseph. Joseph mourned Jacob. Ezra mourned Israel. Nehemiah mourned Jerusalem. Even Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus.

Grief is never presented as weakness. Instead, it is often the natural response to loving deeply in a broken world.

Jesus doesn't say mourning is enjoyable. He promises that those who grieve will be comforted.

That comfort isn't simply about feeling better today. It points to God's ultimate restoration when death, injustice and suffering will finally come to an end.
