God of Outside is our August invitation to step beyond the walls of church and encounter God in the beauty of His creation.

Across five unique experiences—Wonder, Still, Retreat, Explore and Belong—we'll slow down, build deeper community and rediscover that some of God's most memorable encounters in Scripture happened outdoors.

Whether you're seeking rest, adventure, meaningful conversation or simply a place to belong, there's something here for everyone. Join us as we spend August looking up, stepping out and drawing near to God.

Walthamstow Wetlands

Begin the month by rediscovering the wonder of God's creation at Walthamstow Wetlands, Europe's largest urban wetland nature reserve.

Adults will have the opportunity to join a guided RSPB Walking Tour (subject to booking confirmation), while children enjoy their own dedicated nature experience. As we walk together, we'll learn about the incredible wildlife, habitats and history of the wetlands, taking time to slow down, observe and appreciate the beauty of the world God has made.

Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply looking for a peaceful afternoon outdoors, Wonder invites us to see creation through fresh eyes.

Connaught Water


Life rarely slows down—but God often speaks in the quiet.

Join us at Connaught Water for Still, an unhurried afternoon of reflection, conversation and community in one of Epping Forest's most peaceful settings. Bring a picnic blanket, enjoy the lakeside scenery and take time to breathe, pray and simply be still.

Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen when we stop trying to fill every moment.

High Beach / Bedfords Park

You decide where we go. You decide how you explore.

Before the day, you'll vote between High Beach and Bedfords Park. Once the destination is chosen, the adventure is yours to shape.

Walk, cycle, picnic, read, take photos or simply enjoy being outdoors with others. Explore is about discovering God's creation—and enjoying it in a way that's meaningful to you.

Annual Acts Picnic

We'll round off God of Outside with one of our favourite traditions—our annual Acts picnic at Wanstead Flats.

Expect great food, games, laughter and plenty of opportunities to connect with old friends and new faces alike. Whether you've joined us for every event or this is your first, Belong is a reminder that church is more than a service—it's a family.

General

  • Yes, we'd appreciate it if you could register your interest. It helps us plan numbers, communicate updates and, where applicable, secure bookings.

  • Everyone is welcome! Whether you're part of Acts, visiting for the first time or bringing friends and family, we'd love you to join us.

  • Most events are completely free. If an activity has a cost (such as a guided tour), this will be clearly stated on the event page before you register.

  • We recommend bringing:

    • Comfortable clothing and footwear

    • A refillable water bottle

    • Weather-appropriate clothing (sun cream, hat or waterproofs if needed)

    • A picnic or snacks where appropriate

    • A sense of adventure!

    Specific recommendations for each event can be found on its individual page.

  • We'll monitor the forecast and communicate any changes as early as possible. Some events may continue with minor adjustments, while others may be postponed if conditions are unsafe.

    But essentially, we plan to be OUTSIDE!

  • Yes. Families are encouraged to attend, and some events will include activities specifically designed with children in mind.

  • No. God of Outside is designed to be accessible and relaxed. Walking routes and activities are generally suitable for most people, and there's always freedom to participate at your own pace.

  • Please do! God of Outside is designed to be welcoming and accessible. It's a great opportunity to invite friends, neighbours, colleagues or family members to experience community, creation and conversation in a relaxed environment—no church building required.

    I think that FAQ subtly communicates that this isn't just a programme for church members; it's also an easy, low-pressure invitation for people who may not be ready to attend a traditional service.

Event-specific

  • Is the RSPB tour confirmed?

    The adults' guided tour is currently provisional and subject to confirmation of our booking with the RSPB. We'll let everyone know as soon as it's confirmed.

  • What should I bring?

    Bring a picnic blanket or camping chair, your lunch or snacks, a Bible, water and anything else that helps you relax outdoors.

  • How do I choose the location?

    In the lead-up to the event, you'll be invited to vote between High Beach and Bedfords Park. The location with the most votes will become our destination for the day.

  • Do I need to bring food?

    Yes. Please bring your own picnic to enjoy during the afternoon. If you're comfortable doing so, you're also welcome to bring something extra to share with others—but there's absolutely no pressure.

    The most important thing is that you come and enjoy being together as a church family.
